Mediterranean Diet Score: the validated 2-minute check-in, now open for testing
Millions of people try to “eat Mediterranean,” and the tools on offer are mostly calorie loggers and recipe books. Meanwhile nutrition science has had a purpose-built measuring instrument for years: MEDAS-14, the fourteen-item screener developed and validated for the PREDIMED trial — one of the largest dietary intervention studies ever run. In published research, moving this score tracks with outcomes that matter. In consumer software, it exists almost nowhere.
So we shipped it, faithfully and without the bloat: Mediterranean Diet Score — a free web app that asks the fourteen questions, scores you 0–14 with the standard scoring, and shows exactly which items you met and which you missed. That per-item breakdown is the useful part: not a grade, a to-do list.
Three things we deliberately did differently:
- No logging. No barcode scanning, no meal photos, no daily diary. Fourteen questions, about two minutes, once a week. The evidence-backed criteria are the product.
- Your history stays on your device. Re-check weekly and your trend — last score, this score, and a small chart over time — renders locally from your browser’s own storage. No account, no server copy of your answers.
- Honest framing. The app applies the published MEDAS-14 scoring criteria and cites its sources. It doesn’t diagnose anything, prescribe anything, or pretend a score is medical advice.
It’s free, there’s no card and no sign-up, and it works on your phone. We’re opening it up for testing and would genuinely value feedback — what’s confusing, what’s missing, whether the weekly check-in earns its place in your routine.
